Our Savior's Lutheran School

August Newsletter

August 24, 2011.

Dear Parents:

It is with great pleasure that I write to welcome you and your child(ren) to the 2011-2012 school year at Our Savior’s Lutheran School.  I hope that you enjoyed a safe, relaxing summer full of wonderful activities as a family.  As summer comes to a close our thoughts turn to eagerly preparing for the start of another successful school year.  This is always an exciting time of the year!  Having been a teacher at Our Savior’s over ten years ago, I know very well what a caring, close-knit community Our Savior’s has always been, and I am delighted to join this fantastic school as your principal.  I look forward to meeting all of you and forming strong and positive partnerships.

THEME
The theme chosen for the 2011-2012 school year is foundational to Our Savior’s Lutheran School – We are Bucket Fillers!  We are going to spend the year focusing on the command from 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”   Look for more information about our “bucket-filling” in the coming weeks and months.

HOME VISITS
Over the past few weeks our elementary faculty have been enjoying their home visits.  During this time, the teachers have the opportunity to meet each family in their home setting, spend some quality time one-on-one with their students, discuss some of the exciting things planned in their classrooms for this coming year, and begin to strengthen the home-school connection.

MIDDLE SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE
As a reminder, the Middle School Open House will be Monday, August 29th and Wednesday, August 31st at 6:30 p.m.  Please plan to attend one of these two evenings to meet the Middle School faculty and hear about the fantastic Middle School Program.

PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSE
There will also be a Preschool Open House on Tuesday, September 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., as well as on Wednesday, September 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Please plan on attending one of these two times to meet our new Preschool teachers.  We are here for you and for your child, and we will do everything possible to help your child have the best possible year of learning and growth.

FORMS DAY
We look forward to seeing everyone at our Forms Day on Wednesday, September 7th. The open house is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Please come during a time that is convenient for your family. The intent of the open house is to allow you the opportunity to fill out the required forms for this school year, view our school, visit classrooms, drop off classroom supplies, and meet the teachers and staff. We hope that this visit will help the children feel more comfortable beginning the first day of school.

SCHEDULE
The first day of school is Thursday, September 8th.  School hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 3:10 p.m.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL BASH
Our first event of the school year is our Back-to-School Bash.  Please bring a covered dish and join us for dinner on Friday, September 9th at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria for a time of food, fun and fellowship.  We hope you will take this opportunity to reconnect with returning families, enjoy meeting new families, and kick off this school year with a bang.

OPEN HOUSE
Open House will be held on Tuesday, September 20th beginning at 7:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for parents to visit the classrooms, meet with their children’s teachers, and get connected with other parents.  Open House is a great time to give your children’s teachers your feedback and also to hear their perspective on the first few weeks of school.  Please join us at this year’s Open House.
We are very excited about the upcoming school year. By working together, we can achieve great accomplishments. Parents, teachers, and administration all have important roles to encourage our children to become active, life-long learners who love Jesus.  It is my sincere desire to provide expanded opportunities for our students to acquire the skills to become productive citizens who honor Christ in our vastly changing society.
Please feel free to contact me either by phone (459-2273) or by email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The partnership between the school and home is an important component in developing your child into the best possible student.
In Our Savior’s Name,

John March
Principal
